Texture and Pattern

 This week, we learned about Textures and Patterns. Both of these bring out different features and highlights in different spaces.      Texture is an interesting way to spice up and add character to a space. Textures can make a space feel smaller, more intimate, and cozier. They can also suggest temperature and layers. There are two types of textures, visual and tactile. First, tactile is a texture that you can feel and touch. It can be found in things like pillows, blankets, walls, and carpets. Next, there is visual texture. This is like tactile in the visual sense, but there is no physical change in the texture. These can be designs made to look like bricks, or like stone, or can just be a basic pattern.      Patterns add a lot of visual interest to a space. These can be used in many different ways, such as floor tiles, wallpapers, tablecloths, and so on. There is a lot of depth and personality added to a space when patterns are added.   ...

Elements of Design

      This week we learned about different elements of design.      First, we learned about point. Points in design or art are stable in a visual plane. A focal point is a good example of what a point would look like. Points can carry a lot of weight if they are done well. For example, they can create tension if they are off-center or peace if they are directly in the center. Some examples of focal points could be light fixtures, accent walls, artwork, reception desks, and sometimes manipulation of light. Along with single points of focus, there are also two points that connect. This creates an axis within a space, like two pieces of furniture that create an invisible line in a room. These can also create passages through a space as well.      Next, we learned about lines. Different lines create different feelings.
