Texture and Pattern
This week, we learned about Textures and Patterns. Both of these bring out different features and highlights in different spaces.
Texture is an interesting way to spice up and add character to a space. Textures can make a space feel smaller, more intimate, and cozier. They can also suggest temperature and layers. There are two types of textures, visual and tactile. First, tactile is a texture that you can feel and touch. It can be found in things like pillows, blankets, walls, and carpets. Next, there is visual texture. This is like tactile in the visual sense, but there is no physical change in the texture. These can be designs made to look like bricks, or like stone, or can just be a basic pattern.
Patterns add a lot of visual interest to a space. These can be used in many different ways, such as floor tiles, wallpapers, tablecloths, and so on. There is a lot of depth and personality added to a space when patterns are added.
We also covered Light in our lecture. We talked about natural and manmade lights. We also spoke about ambient lighting (overall), accent lighting (section), and mood lighting(setting the mood).
Sketchbook #3
You did a great job of touching all of the main points that we discussed in class this week and had an intriguing way of explaining them. I loved the images you used, and your sketch looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteEliana,
ReplyDeleteI enjoy how you focused on texture and pattern. You seem to have some great thoughts and revelation of how important they are to a total design. How they bring forth the personality of a user.
Your images are great.
Your sketch is nicely done!
