Blog #10

Since we don't have a topic to talk about today, I thought that I would just share more about my project.

I started out with two precedents, (shown below) and I thought through what made both of them stick out and which portions I wanted to implement into my own design.

CASA RECICLADA

The structure of the "Casa Reciclada" consists of three shipping containers. Two of them are 20 feet on the first floor, and one is 40 feet cantilevered container on the second floor. Fujimori explains that the design was created for a young couple for countryside living. Use double-leaf windows.

BOX HOP

The Box Hop Three Shipping containers, Retreat in the woods of Ohio. Sits on stilts. Black and white elements for the interior.

Next, I looked through locations and settled on Great Fall, Montana, which is a beautiful small town surrounded by water and mountains.

INITIAL CONCEPT:

My initial concept for this design is to create a space that looks larger than it is. I want to do this by using dark colors to visually expand the room. I also want to use warm lighting to create a soft aesthetic to blend in with the dark colors. I am planning on designing my Containers in some form of L shape to bring the feeling of nature and being outdoors closer to the doors. This outdoor area could be used for a bonfire, a table, a garden, and many other ideas. Container homes can feel very claustrophobic, so I want to create a space that feels bigger than it is. Within the L shape, I want to have at least one of those walls be mostly glass to make the space feel opened up. Since this is going to be outside of Great Fall, Montana, there will be Mountains around, but the site will be flat in the valley surrounded lightly by trees and nature. This site could also extend to the river in that area as well, so maximizing beautiful views will be very important.

CONTAINER SIZES:

I would want to use two containers for this project, one being a 40-footer high-cube shipping

container, and the other being a 20-footer high--cube shipping container.

BUBBLE DIAGRAM:

Block Diagrams:

Out of the two bubble diagrams, I created block diagrams, which are pretty much directly to the scale that I would like them to be at. After creating the block diagrams I decided that the second, building was more what I wanted to go with since it leaves a bigger outdoor patio space.

  1. Elie, I love your two precedents and all your inspo pictures! I little garden in the back of the first one is so cute! Montana looks so beautiful and I can't wait to see how you incorporate your house to show off the amazing views!
